Biography

Léonie Cordier (1817–1886) was a French woman whose life spanned much of the nineteenth century, a period of significant social and cultural transformation in France. Though limited records remain of her individual accomplishments, her presence in the historical record reflects the lives of countless women of her era whose contributions, though often unrecorded, were integral to the fabric of society.

Cordier's long life witnessed the profound changes that marked nineteenth-century France, and her memory is preserved among those who rest at Père Lachaise Cemetery, one of the most significant burial grounds in Paris.
