Biography
Leschi was born in 1808 and rose to prominence as a tribal leader of the Puyallup people during a period of tremendous upheaval for Native American nations. He worked to protect his people's interests and sovereignty during the era of westward expansion.
Leschi's life ended in 1858, and he was laid to rest at the Old Puyallup Indian Cemetery. His legacy remains significant to the Puyallup Nation and to the history of indigenous resistance and leadership during a transformative period in American history.
