Lewis Henry Steiner

Biography

Lewis Henry Steiner (1827–1892) was a physician and naturalist whose curiosity helped shape the civic life of Baltimore and beyond. He taught young scholars about the natural world, worked to expand medical knowledge, and championed the idea that science and education could uplift every citizen.

He is laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery, and the lists of students, patients, and readers who benefited from his careful stewardship continue to speak of his gentle mentorship and commitment to public learning.
