Lizzie Halliday

Biography

Lizzie Halliday was born in 1859 and lived through difficult years during which her struggles with health and hardship often outpaced the limited care of the time. Her situation brought her into contact with institutions that tried to tend to those in distress, and she spent her later years in the confines of Matteawan State Hospital.

She passed away in 1918 and now lies in Matteawan State Hospital Cemetery; her story lingers as a sober call to treat those who are troubled with understanding and compassion.
