Biography

Louis Guttman introduced the Guttman scale and other measurement tools that helped sociologists, psychologists, and educators quantify attitudes, enabling Israeli social science to speak with greater precision. He also founded research centers that kept empirical work close to the society it studied.

Throughout his career he mentored researchers with patience and a playful affection for puzzles, ensuring that rigorous analysis remained humane; he rests at Har HaMenuchot.
