Biography

Louis XVIII (1755–1824) was King of France, serving as the senior surviving member of the House of Bourbon. He reigned during the Restoration period following Napoleon's defeat, working to stabilize the French monarchy and restore constitutional governance.

Louis XVIII's reign was marked by his efforts to balance traditional monarchical authority with the constitutional principles that had emerged from the Revolution. His legacy includes the Charter of 1814, which established a constitutional framework for the restored French state. He was interred in the Basilica of Saint-Denis, the traditional burial place of French royalty.
