Louise Day Hicks

Biography
Louise Day Hicks broke barriers in Boston civic life, serving on the School Committee, Boston City Council, and in the U.S. House of Representatives while becoming the first woman to lead the City Council. Her focus on neighborhood voices and municipal oversight reflected a fierce belief in responsive government.
Although her leadership coincided with some of the city’s most challenging debates over education, she remained steadfast in advocating for constituents and supporting civic engagement, and she rests at St. Joseph Cemetery where many honor her decades of public service.
