Lt William Sargent

Biography

Lieutenant William Sargent (1797–1823) served as a military officer during the early years of the 19th century, a time when the British military presence was crucial to maintaining and expanding imperial control in India. His service reflected the military infrastructure that underpinned colonial rule.

His untimely death at age 26 cut short what might have been a distinguished military career. His burial at South Park Street Cemetery honors his service and preserves the memory of the many soldiers who died far from home in the service of the British Empire.
