Biography
Lucy Jane Phelps, born in 1818, lived through decades of transformation and stood as a constant figure of compassion in her community. From the early years of the republic into the late 19th century, she was witness to, and likely a participant in, the shaping of family, faith, and civic life in her region.
Her gentle influence and care are remembered by descendants and friends who visit Simsbury Cemetery, where she was laid to rest in 1882.
