Biography

Ludwig Andreas Olsen (1845–1886) emigrated from Norway and made his home as a sailor in the United States Navy, where he distinguished himself by repeatedly risking his own life to save shipmates from peril and was awarded the Medal of Honor for such acts of valor.

He spent his final years still devoted to the maritime brotherhood, and his grave at Cypress Hills National Cemetery stands as a reminder of the courage that defined his service.
