Biography

Ludwig III of Bavaria (1845–1921) was the last King of Bavaria, reigning from 1913 until the kingdom's dissolution in 1918. A military officer by training and inclination, he served with distinction in various capacities before ascending to the throne during the tumultuous final years of World War I. His reign witnessed the dramatic transformation of Bavaria from a monarchy to a republic.

Ludwig III's leadership during the war and its aftermath proved challenging as he navigated the complex political landscape of a nation in upheaval. Though his reign was brief, he remained a significant figure in Bavarian history, representing the old aristocratic order during a period of revolutionary change. He spent his final years in exile, dying in 1921.
