Manuel Lisa was a prominent merchant and fur trader whose entrepreneurial ventures significantly contributed to the early American commerce and westward expansion. Born in 1772, Lisa established himself as a key figure in the fur trading industry, navigating the complex networks of commerce that connected frontier settlements with eastern markets.

Lisa's career exemplified the spirit of enterprise that characterized the early nineteenth century. His death in 1820 marked the end of a life dedicated to commerce and trade, and he was laid to rest in Bellefontaine Cemetery, a testament to the esteem in which he was held by his contemporaries.
