Biography

Marcus Waterman (1834-1914) painted luminous landscapes and scenes that reflected deep appreciation for nature’s serenity and subtle light. His canvases often captured quiet harbors, sunlit skies, and the softly shifting moods of the sea, inviting viewers into contemplative spaces.

As a member of the American art community, he contributed to a tradition of lyrical realism, and his work continues to be celebrated while he rests at Swan Point Cemetery.
