Biography

Margarita Barskaya was a Soviet screenwriter who contributed to the development of Soviet cinema during the 1920s and 1930s. Her work reflected the cultural and artistic ambitions of early Soviet filmmaking during a transformative period in Soviet cultural history.

Barskaya's life ended in 1939 during the waning years of the Great Purge. She was buried at Donskoe cemetery in Moscow, where she rests among many other cultural figures whose careers were interrupted by political repression.
