Biography

Maria Borisovna Meshcherskaya (1851–1919) was a member of the prominent Meshcherskaya noble family of the Russian Empire. She witnessed and lived through the dramatic transformations of Russian society during the late imperial period and the revolutionary upheaval that followed.

Her life spanned nearly seven decades of Russian history, from the reign of Alexander II through the early Soviet period. She was laid to rest in the Nikolskoe Cemetery of Alexander Nevsky Lavra, a cemetery that served as the final resting place for many prominent members of Saint Petersburg society.
