Biography

Maria de Lopez, an early Los Angeles advocate, taught thousands to participate in democracy, working as a journalist, translator, and suffrage leader so that Spanish-speaking residents could access the ballot and civic conversation.

She remained a tireless mentor to students and fellow activists, reminding everyone that fairness flows from education and dialogue, and her spirit continues to inspire those who visit Los Angeles.
