Biography

Maria Hodges lived during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, a period of significant change in English society. Born in 1797, she came of age during the Napoleonic Wars and witnessed the transformation of England from an agricultural to an increasingly industrial nation.

Hodges passed away in 1850 at an advanced age, having lived through more than half a century of English history. She was buried at St Nicholas' Church in Fulbeck, Lincolnshire, where her remains were committed to the parish churchyard in accordance with the customs and traditions of her time.
