Biography
Born Princess Maria of Romania, she became queen consort of Yugoslavia when she married King Alexander in 1922, and she brought gentle leadership and charity to a monarchy beset by political upheaval.
After the king's assassination she devoted herself to philanthropic causes and the welfare of her displaced subjects, and she now lies at the Royal Burial Ground, remembered for a calm strength in trying years.
