Marie-Catherine Monge lived through nearly a century of French history, witnessing the transformations of her nation from the ancien régime through the revolutionary and Napoleonic periods into the nineteenth century. Her remarkable longevity allowed her to observe the profound social and political changes that reshaped European society during her lifetime.
Monge's long life spanned from 1747 to 1846, making her a living bridge between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. She was laid to rest in Père-Lachaise Cemetery, one of Paris's most prestigious burial grounds, in Division 18.
