Biography

Marie Geelmuyden, born in 1856, pursued studies in chemistry at the Royal Frederick University, becoming the first Norwegian woman to earn a degree in the natural sciences. She soon combined her scientific mind with a love for writing, producing textbooks and articles that made complex topics accessible for girls' schools and readers across the country.

Throughout her life she championed broader educational opportunities for women and continued to write for literary and scientific periodicals, offering insight and encouragement for future pioneers. Geelmuyden also remained close to her roots in Horten, supporting local schools and young scholars while laying the groundwork for generations of Norwegian authors.
