Biography
Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma, carried the Habsburg heritage into the courts of Napoleon, showing grace and steadiness as Empress of the French before returning to sovereign rule in Italy.
As Duchess of Parma she devoted herself to philanthropy, establishing schools and hospitals, protecting the welfare of her children, and supporting cultural life; she was laid to rest beside her imperial kin in the Imperial Crypt.
