Biography

Mark Raymond Harrington (1882–1971) devoted his career to archaeology and ethnology, documenting Indigenous cultures with respect and advancing the preservation of artifacts and traditions. His scholarship and fieldwork spanned many regions, yet he remained steadfast in promoting partnerships with the communities whose histories he recorded.

In retirement he reflected on the wisdom of the elders he worked beside, and he now lies at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of careful study and cultural sensitivity.
