Marli Ehrman

1904–1982 (age 78)

Biography

Marli Ehrman trained in the European modernist tradition before bringing her talents to the United States, where she taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and guided countless students in the art of textile design. Her pedagogical style blended color, craftsmanship, and a belief that thoughtful design could elevate everyday living.

Later in life she found peace along the California coast, continuing to share her passion for material culture with friends and admirers while savoring the light of Santa Barbara; her influence lives on through the weavers and designers who still cite her as an inspiration as her gravesite in Santa Barbara Cemetery is visited.
