Biography
Martha Jefferson Randolph (1772–1836) was the eldest daughter of Thomas Jefferson and served as hostess of Monticello following her mother's death. She played an important role in the social and domestic life of one of America's most significant estates, and was known for her intelligence, grace, and dedication to family.
Randolph lived a full life spanning the Revolutionary era and the early decades of the republic. She was buried at Monticello Graveyard, where she remains among the family she served so faithfully, her legacy preserved as an integral part of Jefferson family history and American heritage.
