Martin Russell Thayer served Pennsylvania with distinction as a lawyer, U.S. Representative, and later as a judge, shaping the rule of law across mid-19th-century America with a reputation for fairness and attention to detail.

He prized thoughtful discourse and the institutions of the Church of St. James the Less, and after his retirement he was honored there before being laid to rest beside so many others who shared his devotion to public service.
