Biography

Mary Gurney championed the cause of education for girls and boys alike, dedicating herself to pedagogy at a time when opportunities were still limited and speaking in favor of well-trained teachers and accessible schools.

Her advocacy inspired others to carry forward reforms, and those who valued learning remember her for the warmth and persistence with which she advanced the cause; she rests at Putney Vale Cemetery.
