Biography
Mary Matilda Betham balanced poetry, historical writing, and painting, drawing from studies at the Royal Academy to illuminate the lives of women in earlier centuries and to give shape to her own verses.
She spent her later days in St Pancras, encouraging younger women writers and preserving the documents of her era for posterity, leaving a lasting witness from the early nineteenth century.
