Mathew Benjamin Brady, born in 1822, pioneered the art of photographic documentation, capturing the faces and events of the Civil War so future generations could see the cost of conflict.

His tireless work in his Washington studio and on battlefield expeditions forged a legacy of truth-telling imagery, and he now rests with honor at Congressional Cemetery.
