Matthew Rosamund

Biography

Matthew Rosamund, born in 1823, served as a military officer dedicated to safeguarding British and allied interests along the Red Sea coast. His steady leadership and concern for sailors earned him the respect of both his men and the local inhabitants.

He perished in 1866 while on assignment, and the waves of the Red Sea now bear silent witness to the courage of the officer who once patrolled them.
