Mayme Ousley, born in 1887, made history as the first woman elected mayor of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, bringing a thoughtful, practical approach to city governance during a time when many doubted the voice of women in public office.

She championed infrastructure improvements, better municipal services, and the needs of working families, leaving a civic culture that valued efficiency and compassion; she is memorialized at Saint James Cemetery.
