Biography

Michael Arlen (1895–1956) was a writer whose novels and essays captured the glamour and anxieties of the interwar era, most famously in The Green Hat, which explored modern love with wit and psychological acuity. His deft prose and vivid portrayal of English and American high society made him one of the most discussed authors of the 1920s.

Even after the peak of his fame, Arlen continued to chronicle the shifting cultural landscape, and his life was commemorated at Golders Green Crematorium, where many remember the sharp mind and elegant style that defined his work.
