Biography

Michael John Cramer (1835–1898) pursued both diplomacy and journalism so that the world might better understand itself. He reported with care on unfolding events and used his diplomatic insight to help bridge cultures in a rapidly changing world.

He believed in the power of thoughtful conversation and strived to elevate public discourse while encouraging young writers to seek truth and fairness. His calm wisdom is remembered today at Evergreen Cemetery.
