Mihály Fazekas
1766–1828 (age 62)
Biography
Mihály Fazekas was born near Debrecen and found his vocation in letters, collecting the rhythms and voices of rural Hungary and turning them into the vibrant narrative of Lúdas Matyi and other epics that celebrated the wit of the common folk while exposing injustice.
He also pursued natural history and meteorology, a patient observer of the countryside whose steady pen preserved the landscapes of his time and assured his place among the writers who kept the Hungarian language alive through the reforms of the late eighteenth century.
