Mikhail Kutuzov was one of Russia's most celebrated military commanders, whose strategic brilliance shaped the course of European history during the Napoleonic Wars. Born into the Russian nobility, he rose through the military ranks to become the supreme commander of Russian forces and a pivotal figure in the defeat of Napoleon's Grande Armée.
