Mikhail Lazarev was a dedicated member of the Russian military whose service reflected the martial traditions of Imperial Russia. His career encompassed the final decades of the Tsarist military establishment and the dramatic changes that followed.

Following the Russian Revolution, Lazarev, like many military officers, emigrated to Western Europe. He settled in Nice, where he spent his remaining years among the Russian émigré community. He died in 1941 and was buried in the Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Nice, a sanctuary for exiled Russians far from their homeland.
