Biography

Mikuláš Horáček (1799-1855) upheld the rule of law as a lawyer who took particular care for the livelihoods of artisans and small landowners, arguing for fair contracts, transparent courts, and the reform of outdated procedures to bring a modern sensibility to legal practice.

Always respectful of tradition yet eager for improvement, he mentored younger jurists and left a legacy of measured judgment, and following his passing his colleagues honored him with a resting place in Vyšehrad Cemetery, where many guardians of Czech public life are remembered.
