Biography
Mitsukuri Shōgo (1821–1846) was a young Japanese geographer whose promising career was cut short by his untimely death. He lived during a period of increasing Japanese interest in Western geographical knowledge and cartography.
Shōgo's work in geography reflected Japan's growing engagement with global knowledge systems during the late Edo period. He was laid to rest at Tama Cemetery, remembered as a scholar whose potential was never fully realized.
