Biography
Moritz von Engelhardt established mineralogical research in Estonia, expeditioning through the Urals and Crimea, collecting specimens for European colleagues and writing treatises on the crystalline forms that defined Russian geology.
As professor at Dorpat he taught future scientists, curated the university museum, and corresponded widely; Old St. John's cemetery now marks the place where his meticulous work and quiet generosity are remembered.
