Biography

Moses A. Dropsie devoted his considerable means and energy to promoting education and the study of Hebrew and Semitic languages, establishing scholarships, libraries, and funds that ensured scholars could pursue these disciplines with integrity. His philanthropy extended beyond any single institution, reflecting a belief that understanding one another's traditions could strengthen the civic fabric.

He took great care in planning for the future, leaving instructions that his legacy be used for learning, and he rests at Mount Sinai Cemetery as the founder of the Dropsie College whose spirit still endures.
