Biography

Moses Cleaveland (1754–1806) was a surveyor and veteran who answered the republic’s call to explore the western territories, laying the groundwork for communities yet to rise. His leadership on those expeditions combined courage, precision, and a deep respect for the land.

Though his name became synonymous with the great city of Cleveland, he never forgot the humble hopes of his neighbors, and his burial in Cleaveland Cemetery honors a pioneer whose planning spirit helped open the American frontier.
