Biography

Moses Hogan was a pioneering composer and arranger whose masterful settings of African American spirituals introduced their beauty to choirs of every age. He combined scholarly depth with emotive performance to create arrangements that highlighted the resilience and faith embodied in these treasured songs.

He also served as a guiding teacher, founding choirs and workshops that nurtured young singers and deepened appreciation for cultural heritage. His legacy at Mount Olivet Cemetery is that of an artist who made the spiritual both dignified and accessible to the world.
