Nancy Ward, known as Nanye-hi among the Cherokee people, was a remarkable leader and diplomat who profoundly influenced the history of the Cherokee Nation during a period of tremendous change and challenge. Born into the Deer Clan, she rose to prominence through her wisdom, courage, and dedication to her people, earning the title of Ghigau, or "Beloved Woman," a position of significant authority in Cherokee society.
