Biography

Nathan B. Smith grew up in the turbulent 1840s and spent his life in the Pulaski area, where he willingly shared his knowledge of the land and the value of steady effort. As the 19th century gave way to the 20th, villagers leaned on his practical advice and gentle leadership when weather or harvest threatened their livelihoods.

In later years Nathan reflected with gratitude on the friends and family who gathered around the humble table he helped set; his death in 1920 left a community mindful of the virtues of perseverance. He was laid to rest in Pulaski Village Cemetery, where many still remember the depth of his quiet commitment.
