Nathan Peabody Ames

Biography

Nathan Peabody Ames, born in 1803, became a manufacturer whose dedication to quality and innovation helped mold Chicopee into a center of industry. He oversaw the forging of durable goods that met both local needs and wider aspirations, and he supported the growth of skilled labor in his community.

He died in 1847 and was laid to rest in Chicopee, where his contributions to manufacturing and civic life remain part of the town's proud heritage.
