Biography

Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward (1791–1868) was a botanical collector whose curiosity and invention of the Wardian case transformed the keeping and transport of plants, nourishing both scientific study and horticultural delight.

His remains at West Norwood Cemetery mark the resting place of a gentle experimenter whose innovations allowed distant worlds of flora to flourish together.
