Biography

Ned Christie (1852–1892) was a Cherokee statesman and defender of his people’s rights at a time of tremendous upheaval. He served faithfully as a sheriff and senator within the Cherokee Nation, advocating for law and justice while seeking to protect the sovereignty of his homeland.

Though he was wrongfully accused and lost his life in the pursuit of truth, Christie’s courage and sense of honor remain powerful symbols of resistance and hope. He was laid to rest in Watt Christie Cemetery, where his legacy continues to inspire those who remember the sacrifices he made.
