Feminist activist
Biography
Nelly Roussel, born in 1878, was a spirited feminist activist whose eloquent speeches and courageous writings challenged the traditional roles assigned to women at the turn of the century. She became a leading voice for reproductive rights and the dignity of motherhood, urging society to trust women with the decisions that shaped their own lives.
Her tireless advocacy brought comfort to countless women who had previously been silenced, and she helped to seed the movements that would continue to fight for equality. Though she left us in 1922, her conviction that liberty must include bodily autonomy still inspires the generations that follow.
