Biography

Nicola Marschall (1829–1917) brought his German training to the United States and became a sought-after artist and designer whose portraits and banners captured the dignity of Louisville's leading families.

He spent his final decades in Louisville, where his steadfast presence at Cave Hill Cemetery recalls a life devoted to beauty and craftsmanship that continues to inspire students of design.
