Biography

Nikolai Vavilov was a preeminent Russian biologist whose groundbreaking research in genetics and plant science earned him international recognition. Born in 1887, he established himself as a leading figure in biological science and made discoveries that advanced human understanding of heredity and agricultural science.

Vavilov's scientific achievements were remarkable, yet his life was marked by tragedy during the Stalinist era. He died in 1943 under circumstances reflecting the political repression of the time, and was laid to rest at Voskresenskoye cemetery in Saratov, where he is remembered as a brilliant scientist whose work transcended the limitations of his era.
