Biography
Ogden L. Mills entered public life after a childhood shaped by travel and service, winning election to Congress where he focused on tariff reform, fiscal responsibility, and the promotion of arts and conservation. He brought a keen analytical mind and a poet's sensibility to the House, championing legislation that balanced the urgent needs of farmers and industrialists.
In 1932 President Hoover appointed him Secretary of the Treasury, where Mills navigated the early storms of the Great Depression, advocated for balanced budgets, and encouraged wise stewardship of national parks while also supporting Saint James Episcopal Churchyard as a place of solace for parish families.
